NATURAL FIBERS
COTTON is a natural, plant fiber and belongs to the mallow-family. It is composed of celluose, the base substance of all plants. Cotton is an optimal fibre to wear close to the skin and through fiber mixing, the durability can be improved. Longer staple increase the quality of the cotton. The best cotton is harvested on the Nile Delta. In Turkey the cotton harvested in the Aegean region shows the similiar characteristics of the Egyptian Cotton.
Combed cotton, is the highest grade of cotton, the main source for superb quality dress socks. Combed cotton has been processed through a comber which removes short fibers and trash components to achieve higher uniformity and tenacity.
Mercerised cotton is achieved through treatment with caustic soda under tension, a process giving cotton yarn luster and dye receptivity.
WOOL is a natural animal fiber and it has a warm, comfortable, soft, supple feel to it. It is an optimal insulator and is able to absorb moisture from the body, as from the air, and retain it within its fibres. As a result, the foot remains dry and warm and, because of the soft, supple texture of the wool fibres, your socks will still feel comfortable even after hours of wear. It may also be combined with Nylon for stretch and strength.
CASHMERE Luxuriously soft, expensive yarn made from the undercoat of the Kashmir goat. SILK The luxury natural filaments taken from the cocoons of various types of silkworms. Characterized by high luster, soft hand, high tensile strength and thermal properties.
MANUFACTURED FIBERS
It is important to understand that all manufactured fibers are not alike. Each fiber has a unique composition and it's own set of physical properties. Having said that here are the main man made fibers used in our production:
LYCRA® DuPont's registered trademark for its spandex fiber. Widely used in socks for its stretch and recovery properties, which help provide better fit and shape retention.
TACTEL is a fine structure polyamide fibre which greatly increases the comfort and durability of the socks. This material is also breathable and easy to care for.
COOLMAX® A high performance fiber that moves sweat away from the body to the outer layer of fabric, where it dries faster. It keeps feet cool, dry and comfortable.
HOLLOFILI® Dupont's registered trademark for hollow fibers, which trap and hold still air, providing excellent insulating properties. Used in thermal socks in blends with other fibers.
NYLON A man-made polyamide fiber derived from coal, water and air. Introduced in 1938, nylon is the first and oldest of the true synthetics. Famous for its strength, abrasion resistance, dimensional stability, soft hand, elasticity, easy-washing qualities and quick-drying characteristics.
RAYON A man-made fiber, usually made from regenerated cellulose. Rayon has a soft hand, high moisture absorbency and retention, good dyeability and washability.
DURASPUN Solutia’s acrylic fiber that wicks away moisture from foot three times faster than the cotton yarn.
